St. Teresa of Avila’s terrifying visions of demons and the dead from her autobiography *The Life*, Chapter 38.

In this powerful teaching we open one of the most startling passages in the writings of Saint Teresa of Ávila — the Doctor of the Church — where she recounts the supernatural visions God granted her concerning the fate of souls after death.

You’ll discover:
• The vision of two hideous demons surrounding a priest in mortal sin holding the Sacred Host (§ 29–30)
• Why God allowed Teresa to see the power of the words of consecration even in the hands of a sinful priest
• The horrifying sight of a damned soul’s body seized and dragged by a multitude of demons with iron hooks (§ 31–33)
• Teresa’s desperate prayer for a Provincial superior and the sudden vision of his soul rising from the depths of the earth into heaven (§ 34–36)
• Two holy Carmelite nuns ascending immediately to glory
• A Jesuit brother and a faithful Carmelite friar entering heaven without passing through purgatory (§ 39–40)
• How these experiences relate to the Sixth Mansion of *The Interior Castle*

These are not legends. These are the carefully recorded mystical experiences of one of the greatest saints in Church history, written under obedience to her confessors between 1562–1565.

If you have ever wondered what the saints actually saw regarding demons, purgatory, and the particular judgment, this chapter of *The Life* will leave you both sobered and filled with hope.
